Hi, I’m Sasha. Nice to meet you!
I was going to start by saying that being the new girl as an adult is completely different then being the new girl as a kid, but that’s actually not true. It’s awkward, you feel out of place, you’re plopping yourself into the middle of a community of people with well established lives who don’t necessarily have “making new friends” on the agenda. So really, it’s not all the different, just potentially more isolating as you don’t have the social atmosphere of school to immediately to connect you to people of your own age group, going through similar life trials and tribulations as you.
So here I am, at age 39, creating life a new in South Florida. After 15 years in Los Angeles, I moved across the country with my Chihuahua Nica, to West Palm Beach for a fresh beginning. What drew me here primarily was the affordability of living close to the beach (my frame of reference is LA people!), the beauty of the ocean, and being closer to my parents.
Now that I’m a couple months into my journey, I feel compelled to share my experiences of being the new kid, as an adult. The fun, the fear, the beauty, the loneliness, the excitement…all of it!
Here’s a sampling of what you’ll find on this blog:
- Building community in a new city as an adult (particularly one that works from home)
- How to create a magical life from scratch
- Living in a humid, tropical climate – The hair struggle is real!
- West Palm Beach and South Florida restaurants, night life, beaches, shopping, events…
- Coping with loneliness while making new friends
- Dating in South Florida
I’m happy to have you along for the ride. The best way to stay engaged is to follow my blog via email, so new posts can be delivered directly to your inbox.
